Baltimore Sheriff”s deputy charged in road rage case

Mar 30, 2012 | by Oscar Chalmers | No Comments »

Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office deputy Michael Savage has been arrested and charged with two counts of first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment for allegedly pointing his gun at a motorcyclist, according to the Carroll County Times.

The motorcyclist told the news source he made an obscene gesture toward the officer, who he claims had illegally passed him on the highway. After he made the gesture again, the driver, who was later determined to be Savage, allegedly pointed a black handgun at the cyclist, and made a motion as if he was firing, the source said.

Had the alleged incident gone any further, it may have ended in tragedy.

AZ House Defeats Impound Law

Mar 27, 2012 | by Stephen Murphy | No Comments »

A proposed Arizona bill that would have changed existing auto insurance laws to allow law enforcement officers to two and impound the vehicles of drivers who do not have liability insurance was defeated yesterday in the states House Appropriations Committee.

Senate Bill 1165 was authored by state Representative John Kavanagh (R-Fountain Hills), but had come under the scrutiny of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Arizona, Inc. (IIABA), which organization had brought up concerns that the bill, had it passed, might lead to drivers who actually HAVE insurance being subjected to towing and impounding, and that a liability issues might be created for insurance agents.

Finding Cheap Gas and Car Insurance

Mar 26, 2012 | by Christopher Allen | No Comments »

Almost everyone is strapped for cash right now and two ways theyve been looking to save money are finding cheap car insurance and gas for their vehicles.  Its easier to find cheap car insurance right now than it is to find cheap gas, but according to CNN, gas prices are close to hitting their high.  Matt Smith talks about this in his article Gas prices up but may be peaking, Lundberg survey says.  In the past year, the price of gas has increased by 36 cents a gallon in the United States.  Just in the past couple of weeks, gas has gone up 11 cents a gallon to $3.93.

The price of crude oil has been steady in March and as long as this continues, the Lundberg survey says that gas prices should hit their high very soon.  It is possible that the average will not go above $4/gallon, something that has been a concern for many people.  Right now demand in the United States is fairly low and 20% of the refinery capacity is currently idled.  The United States gas market is very well supplied and looks to remain that way for quite awhile.

Chicago had the highest gas prices in the United States at $4.56/gallon.  You can find the cheapest gas prices in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  But $3.58/gallon doesnt really sound that cheap unfortunately.  In order to save some money, many consumers have been purchasing vehicles based on their gas and car insurance costs.  Hybrid cars and those with traditionally low car insurance premiums have been desirable to help consumers save money.  Its also important to shop around for the best car insurance rates and get any kind of gas discounts available in your area to help save more money.

The Government in the UK is considering implementing a scheme which would prevent uninsured drivers from being able to refuel their cars at petrol stations.

This would operate by installing thousands of license plate recognition cameras. They would be put in place at petrol stations throughout the UK and would cross-check car registration plates against the government’s tax and insurance records. If no match is found in both databases for tax and insurance then the petrol pump would not operate.

The British Government have decided to make novel use of its CCTV cameras after a presentation from Ernst & Young who are planning to help implement this new system in conjunction with Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR).

The justification for the new cameras by Downing Street officials is they hope the hi-tech system will crack down on the 1.4 million motorists who are driving in the UK without insurance.

“The key to this is simplicity. Con
