What is a class 1 roof?

Apr 14, 2012 | by Christopher Allen | No Comments »

A Class 1 roof designation requires approval from either Factory Mutual Research (FMR) or Underwriters Laboratory (UL). The roof design is tested, and then if it gains approval, must be installed exactly as tested.

Inspection is detailed and exacting. No building material substitutions or assembly technique can vary from the prescribed protocol, not even the thickness or dimensions. Insurance rates and coverage are affected, and building codes may be violated by breaking with installation guidance.

Each substituted component or technique must be approved by UL or FMR.

Confusion occurs when roofs are discussed as A, B, or C and then 1. Class 1 is a more rigorous standard.

Professional Indemnity Insurance Associated With Healthcare

Apr 08, 2012 | by Christopher Allen | No Comments »

Professional employees in OB/GYN services should require insurance. More couples today are choosing alternative means of delivering their child and also, in many cases, may utilize the services of a self-employed midwife or doula to assist with the delivery. Couples may choose to begin using these services for a number of reasons spiritual, environmental, emotional or perhaps financial.

Whatever the reason may be, couples and expectant mothers may turn to a midwife for such support, counting on her to ensure that the birth of their baby goes smoothly. Because this may not always occur, it is of the utmost importance that a self-employed midwife carries professional indemnity insurance.

Professional indemnity insurance can protect employees from potential hazards that could take place during the delivery.

Minibike Accident May Determine English Premier League Soccer Title

Apr 03, 2012 | by Stephen Murphy | No Comments »

Sergio Kun Aguero may well have handed storied English football club Manchester United yet another Premier League title in a silver cup after he wrecked his foot while riding his son’s tiny motorcycle. Aguero got the injury while riding a mini-motocross bike as he goofed around with his three-year-old son, Benjamin, at the family home in Cheshire, UK.

To make matters worse, the Argentine football star then tried to treat the injury by repeatedly applying the anesthetic freeze spray (which footballers the world over use to cover for their horrible, fake diving injuries suffered in search of dubious penalty kicks).

The spray reportedly caused burns and blisters and rendered the Manchester City star unable to play or train. H

Manitoba Appeal Court grants narrow scope to appeal a decision that found MPI doesn’t have to pay for auto injury victim’s surgery in Germany

Mar 30, 2012 | by Christopher Allen | No Comments »

Manitoba’s Court of Appeal has granted a very narrow scope to appeal a decision that found the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPIC) is not obligated to pay for an auto accident victim’s out-of-province surgical procedure in Germany.

Erdman Harder was injured in an October 2005 auto accident in Manitoba. He became aware of a surgical procedure available in Germany and advised MPIC that he would be travelling there for the treatment.

After the surgery in Germany, Harder said he made a “remarkable recovery” and has been back to work full time for two and one-half years. He applied to Manitoba Health for reimbursement of the expenses related to his surgery.

Manitoba Health denied his claim, saying he had failed to show the service was not available in Manitoba. Before
