ND Oil Town Sees Increased Accidents

Williston, North Dakota isnt a town most people have heard of, but right now the city, which is the center of oil activity for the state, is getting some press because its seeing an increase in automobile accidents.

According to statistics shared by the local police, there were 131 vehicle accidents reported in October, 2011, almost twice as many as the previous years number of 78.

As well the estimated total vehicle damage was higher this year $483,000 last month as opposed to roughly $200,000 in October, 2010.

Why such a marked increase? Police Lt. Mark Bitz told the Williston Daily News that it was a result of a growing population and a greater amount of traffic.

It will be interesting to see if auto insurance rates also increase in Williston as a result.
